Communications Team Responder
This position provides
communications support for the Disaster Services department.
Responsibilities include: Operation of commercial and /or amateur radio
equipment; monitoring police, fire, ambulance, and other public service
radio systems to keep chapter staff apprised of events of possible/current
response; manning the radio room at the Mower County office forward deployment to support shelters, facilities, or vehicles; operation
of Mobile Command Unit (not driving). Qualifications include: Ability to
interact with members of other functions; ability to work independently,
knowledge of radio and electronics/electrical elements; Amateur Radio
License recommended. Time commitment is 5 hours/month + response time.
Mass Care Response
Team Member
Mass Care Response Teams are on call to
initiate feeding and sheltering responses in Mower County.
Responsibilities include: Being available during on-call periods;
operating and/or driving the feeding van, and working in a shelter
performing tasks such as set up, food serving, clean up, and client
registration. Each team is on-call every third week whenever the office is
closed (Monday-Friday, 5pm-8:30am, all day Saturday, Sunday, and
holidays).
Presenter- Community
Disaster Education (CDE)
Do you enjoy public
speaking and educating others? Disaster Services has the volunteer
opportunity for you. Disaster Services is looking for volunteers to
promote and conduct Disaster Education presentations. The Red Cross will
provide three required training classes and two recommended training
classes. Each presentation takes approximately four hours and presenters
are asked to make a minimum commitment of four presentations per year, as
well as attending regular meetings.
Community Disaster Education Presentation Coordinator
The purpose of this
position is to schedule qualified CDE presenters for presentations in King
County. This volunteer will receive requests forwarded from the Chapter
Office and be responsible for matching them with presenters.
Responsibilities also include maintaining the database & calendar of
presentations and reporting monthly statistics to the Chapter office. This
volunteer must have strong verbal & written communication skills, and the
ability to work within established time requirements. It is a 10 hour a
month position that can be done at home. All training provided.
Emergency Services
Receptionist
The Disaster Services
Department needs a volunteer to handle incoming calls, clients, and
visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Responsibilities include:
Answer main telephone lines for the department & transfer calls as
necessary; help incoming visitors and clients; prepare disaster
preparedness information for distribution; completes data entry work a
needed; completes other duties as assigned. Qualifications needed:
comfortable with a computer and MS Office applications; strong verbal
communication skills. Time commitment: Shifts are from 3PM-5PM,
Monday-Friday; must be able to commit to a minimum of one day per week for
at least 6 months
Disaster Action
Team Trainee
Disaster Action Teams
are on call to initiate our response to any kind of disaster. These teams
respond whenever the office is closed (evenings, overnight, weekends, and
holidays) and most commonly respond to residential fires and ensure that
disaster victims have immediate resources for food, clothing, and
shelter. In Mower County, there are 6 teams that rotate being on call one
week at a time. After your initial volunteer
orientation, there are 4 classes you have to complete before being placed
on a team. A one year commitment is required.
Disaster Mental
Health Services Surge Capacity Volunteer
The purpose of this
position is to provide support for disaster operations that are larger
than our routine disasters. Responsibilities include: working in a variety
of locations, responding to the disaster caused mental health needs of the
community when requested, and conducting defusings and debriefings.
Qualifications are: current Minnesota State licensed mental health
professional, and have extreme flexibility. The time commitment is 15
hours/year + response time. Volunteers need to attend 50% of all of the
Disaster Volunteer & Disaster Mental Health Service meetings a year, and
attend one additional ARC class annually.
Disaster Mental
Health Dispatcher
The volunteer in this
position will find DMH workers to respond to the disaster caused mental
health needs of the community. Responsibilities include: Contact DMH
volunteers as needed to respond to appropriate calls; carry and respond to
a pager; respond to disaster caused mental health needs when requested and
conduct defusings and debriefings. Qualifications are: Minnesota State
licensed Mental Health Professional; strong organizational skills. Time
commitment: Approximately 5 hours per month, and a minimum commitment to
be on-call for two weeks every six months.
Disaster Health
Services Surge Capacity Volunteer
The purpose of this
position is to provide support for disaster operations that are larger
than our routine disasters. Responsibilities may include: working in a
variety of locations, inspect ARC work locations for safety and
sanitation, evaluate medical and safety needs of clients and staff, and
follow standard care for biohazard materials, including blood borne
pathogens, and diaper changing stations. Qualifications needed are current
Washington State license for RN, LPN, MD or EMT and have extreme
flexibility. The time commitment is 15 hours/year + response time. Attend
a minimum of 50% of all of the Disaster Volunteer and Disaster Health
Services meetings a year, and attend one additional ARC class annually.
Disaster Relief
Container Coordinator
This volunteer will
ensure that all of the supplies in our containers are maintained, current,
and appropriately stocked. Responsibilities include: Maintaining a current
directory and inventory on all containers; re-leveling containers as
directed; acquiring and outfitting new containers as directed; and rotate
supplies as necessary to prevent spoilage. Qualifications include:
ability to work independently; good organizational skills; access to a
computer and e-mail, and to use MS Office programs; ability to lift and
move 75lbs; and willingness to take and pass the chapter ERV driving
course. Time commitment: hours are flexible; average 5 hours a week.
Volunteer Support
Committee Member
This volunteer will
support the Coordinator of Disaster Volunteers with volunteer management
for Emergency Services. Responsibilities include: Help plan All Disaster
Volunteer Quarterly Meetings; assist with call outs and staffing of
disaster relief operations; work with the different Disaster Services
functions to provide mentoring opportunities for new volunteers;
participate in planning and committee meetings as required. Qualifications
needed: Organizational skills, strong oral and written skills; extremely
people oriented. Time Required: 10-12 hour/month split between business
and evening hours; and attend monthly committee meetings.
