    Commitment from the Top

From the American Red Cross Chairman David McLaughlin

"The 2000 census numbers tell a remarkable story. America is changing. Hispanic Americans have grown by 60% since 1990. And now, nearly 7 million people identify themselves as belonging to more than one race. Race is just one aspect of diversity at the American Red Cross. Religion, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, expertise and languages make us different and alike. We should embrace and celebrate our experiences. We are of, by and for our communities and each community is unique. As part of our strategy of total diversity in the American Red Cross, we must design programs and services that address the needs of all people in our communities. We must strive to recruit from every segment of the community both volunteers and employees. Each of us has a role to play. As our country changes so does and will the American Red Cross."

From the American Red Cross President & CEO Marsha Evans

"Achieving total diversity within the Red Cross is a priority for both myself and the entire Red Cross organization. Each of us must seek opportunities to truly transform the tapestry of the Red Cross. This means not only recruiting diverse employees and volunteers, but attracting diverse leadership, and doing business with diverse vendors and other enterprises. Increasing diversity among our leaders and those we do business with will help the Red Cross become a more inclusive organization- one that is better able to meet the needs of our diverse community."
