About Diversity

Diversity Vision: "By 2008, every household in America will be involved with the Red Cross as volunteers, employees, blood donors, financial donors, customers and/or suppliers assuring that we are representative of America and recognized for our commitment to diversity and inclusiveness."

Corporate Diversity Mission: Provide leadership, consultation, training and resources to assist Red Cross units in leveraging the diversity of our people, programs and services throughout the organization to meet the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross.

Total Diversity Definition: The collective differences and similarities in our people and the diverse programs and services provided to communities we serve.

All great organizations are built on great foundations. The American Red Cross is built on a foundation based on diversity-positive leadership throughout all its operations making it an inclusive organization fostering inclusive service to all Americans and our international neighbors in need.

The Red Cross has a solid foundation of commitment to diversity and we are building upon it every day. Valuing the diversity among people- diversity of thinking, backgrounds and culture- helps the Red Cross better meet the needs of the communities we serve. The diversity among Red Cross workers is vital to developing and delivering life-saving services to the American public. Drawing upon those similarities and learning about the differences enhances our human experience and helps make us one of the most relied upon and recognized humanitarian organizations in the world.

Through our national network of Red Cross units in every community in the country, we build relationships and run programs working towards our goals:

  • To integrate diversity into every Red Cross unit's strategic and business planning processes;
  • To increase understanding of how diversity impacts the mission of the American Red Cross;
  • To help units use diversity as a strategy to enhance their regular business activities.

To achieve the broadest possible success from our organizational investment in diversity, the Red Cross has established programs, both locally and nationally. We also have Diversity Consultants who are trained in the use of our Strategic & Tactical Model for Diversity Business Planning. The Red Cross also established partnerships with organizations that share our diversity goals and help us reach diverse audiences. The programs, consultants and partnerships are what help us work towards realizing our full potential and strive towards the total diversity of our people, programs and services.
