INTRODUCTION TO DISASTER SERVICES This course
is prerequisite for all disaster training. It covers the
basic information about disasters, their effects on
people and the community, and the role of the government
and volunteer agencies particularly, the American Red
Cross, in providing disaster assistance. Prerequisite:
Volunteer orientation
DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
I Once public safety personnel have contained the
disaster, Red Cross survey teams go to work to assess
the damage. By taking this class, you will learn how to
organize survey teams, what to look for, and how to
prepare survey reports. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services
FAMILY SERVICES This
class describes how a chapter assigned caseworker meets
disaster caused emergency needs of families and
individual. Teaches interviewing skill, Red Cross
services policy and community social services
resources. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster
Services
LOGISTICS: AN
OVERVIEW Introduces participants to the management of
material and logistical resources on disaster operations
at the chapter level. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services
MASS CARE: AN
OVERVIEW This course provides basics information
about the activities of the Mass Care function.
Participants will learn about the skills and abilities
needed by mass care workers and how they can get started
in their local chapter. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services
SHELTER
OPERATIONS This class provides information on
opening, maintaining and closing shelters, space
management, equipment and supplies, and problem solving.
